Sublimation

Sublimation turns ink into gas and bonds it into polyester fibers or a polyester coating. The result is vibrant, permanent color with no “print layer” to crack or peel.

How sublimation works

We print your design onto transfer paper, then press it at high heat. The ink bonds into polyester material (or a coated blank), so the design becomes part of the item rather than sitting on top.

Pros

  • No cracking or peeling (ink becomes part of the substrate)
  • Brilliant color, perfect for full-coverage designs
  • Excellent for performance apparel and hard goods
  • Great for photo-quality prints on coated blanks

Limitations

  • Requires polyester or a polyester coating (not for cotton)
  • Best on white or very light items; ink is transparent
  • Cannot print white ink; base color shows through
  • Some blanks vary by coating quality and finish

Best for

  • Apparel: Performance jerseys and poly blends (light colors)
  • Drinkware & Kitchen: Ceramic mugs, glass tumblers, metal water bottles, and coasters (coated)
  • Accessories & Gifts: Mouse pads, puzzles, keychains, and phone cases (coated)

Artwork tips

For sublimation, item color and finish matter. We will help you choose the right blank and adjust artwork to print cleanly.

Files

  • High-res PNG or vector (AI, EPS, PDF)
  • Designs look best on white/light substrates
  • We can recommend bleed and safe-area for wrap prints

Care

  • Dishwasher safe depends on the blank and coating
  • Avoid abrasive scrubbers on coated items
  • For apparel: wash cold, dry low
